Passed away peacefully at Marianhill on Wednesday, September 28th, 2005 in her 64th year.

Barbara Dickson (nee Dawley) of 32 Eileen Street Pembroke dearly loved wife of Allan Major and by first marriage the late Donald Dickson. Daughter of J. Dwight and Myrtle Dawley (nee Simmons), Winchester. Dear mother of Kyle Dickson (wife Tammy), Beachburg; Tim Dickson (wife Cindy), Abbotsford, B.C.; and Todd Dickson (Melody), Beachburg. Nana to Sophie & Justin. Grandma Barb to Alyshia & Nicholas. Step-mother to Ian Major (Melanie), their children Stephan & Laura; and step-mother also to Lee Major. Sister of Linda Burman (husband Peter), Montreal; and Diane Sauve (husband John), Blairstown, New Jesery, USA. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Visitation will be held at the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home 141 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Thursday from 7 until 9:00 and on Friday from 2 until 4:00 and 7 until 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in Greenwood United Church on Saturday, October 1st, 2005 at 11:00 a.m.. Passed away peacefully at the Pembroke Regional Hospital with his family by his side on Saturday, September 24th, 2005 in his 75th year.

Alan Mitton beloved husband of Geneva Mitton. Dear father of Albert Mitton (Jo-Ann); Bruce Mitton (Linda); Joel Mitton (Heather); Jayne Cardiff (John); and Tracey Ruhnke (Jeff). Loving grandfather of 18 grandchildren and a deceased grandson and great-grandfather of 3 great-grandchildren. Brother to Ruth Brandon, Coldwater, ON. Predeceased by his brothers John and William Mitton and sisters Margaret Gaudette, Marina McConnell and Selma Watterson (Jack).

Dear father to Debra Sader (husband Dallas), Campbell River, B.C.; Donna Loback (husband Mark), Oshawa; Terry Raddatz (wife Karen), Pembroke; and Heather Hoskins (husband Rev. Trevor), Belleville. Predeceased by his son Garry Raddatz. Grandfather to Danee & Drew Sader; Brooks and Chanel Raddatz; Jonathan & Dana Loback; Madison, Joel, Scott, Jillian Raddatz; and Hannah & Joshua Hoskins. Son of the late George & Annie Raddatz (nee Schultz). Brother of Gladys Schizkoske (husband Warren), Pembroke; Lillian Brodofske (husband Fern), Pembroke; Roy Raddatz (wife Marjorie), Pembroke; Ruth Page, Petawawa; and George Raddatz Jr. (wife Sheila), Pembroke. MCNAIR, Arthur Clarke
At Marianhill Nursing Home, Pembroke on Thursday, September 22, 2005 in his 89th year.

Arthur McNair of Pembroke dearly loved husband of Kathryn (Kay) McNair (nee McIntyre). Dear father of Ernest McNair (Paula), Kanata. Grandpa to Clarke NcNair (Sarah), Barrhaven; Amber McNair, Toronto; and great-grandfather to Connor and Emma. Son of the late Ernest & Gertrude McNair (nee Clarke). Brother of Kenneth McNair, Oakville; Ann McNair, Fredericton NB; and Eleanor Brown (Roy), Etobicoke. Predeceased by sister Penelope McNair; and brothers Evan and Nathaniel McNair. Will be sadly missed by nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to thank Dr. Baxter and staff of the second floor at Marianhill for their excellent care and compassion over the past two and a half months. Art began employment with Canada Veneers Ltd, a K.C. Irving Co., in 1936, retiring after a distinguished career in 1988. He worked in the Saint John, NB plant, becoming Superintendent of Operations when the company became the world's largest supplier of aircraft veneers during WWII. When the business moved to Pembroke, ON in 1950 he continued in this capacity. Later, Art became CEO and Vice-President of Canada Veneers Ltd. and its two associated companies, Hogan Lake Timber and Canada Veneers Belleterre Quebec Ltd. Serving a number of years as Canadian director of the (American) Hardwood Plywood Manufacturers Association, Art was proud to be the first Canadian inducted as a lifetime member in 1992. In addition, he was a long time director of the Ontario Forest Association and a member of the Canadian Standard Association. Active in the community, Art served on the Civic Hospital board and was the first commissioner appointed to Pembroke Hydro. An avid golfer and lifetime member of the Canadian Seniors Golf Association, Art was a long time member of the Pembroke Golf Club and particularly loved playing in the annual Gordon Cup competition participating on the Pembroke team for 25 years.

BAILEY, Vera Jonina (nee Rognvaldson)

Vera Jonina Died peacefully on September 21, 2005 in her 93rd year at the Marianhill Nursing Home in Pembroke, ON. Wife of the late Dr. Reverend Harold Masters BAILEY; mother to Jonina, Gwenyth, Marcail, Dickson and Glen; grandmother to 20 and great-grandmother to 15; and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Vera (sister of Bert, Mabel, Gordon, Clarence, Laura, Ellis, and Douglas) was the daughter of John Rognvaldson and Maud (nee Allen) and was born in Winnepegosis in 1911. Vera became an RN after competing studies at the Winnipeg Sick Children's Hospital and practised as a nurse in Hearst and at the Sick Children's in Toronto where she worked for many years. She worked as a social worker with Children's Aid in Sarnia. Her love of children was also expressed in her long support for her Foster Parent Plan Children. Vera was above all devoted to her family. She instilled in her five children sensitivity to others and the desire to be the best they could be. She and Harold shared 65 years of marriage together: their committment to one another never wavered. Vera will be greatly missed for her energy, her sense of humour and winsome smile, and caring for others.

A celebration of Vera's life will be held at Calvin United Church, Pembroke, ON on Monday, October 3, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception and interment in the Calvin United Cemetery, Pembroke. DIXON, Walter
Passed away peacefully in the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Friday, September 16th, 2005 in his 90th year.

Born Kippax, Yorkshire, England. Emigrated to Canada April of 1932 at the age of 16 years. Walter is a friend of Jack & Evelyn Wilson and family of Pembroke (Late Harry Wilson Family). Son of the late Emily and Thomas Dixon (nee Cockroft). Survived by brother James (Erica) Dixon, Wetherby, West Yorkshire, England. Brother-in-law of Les Crates, Penarth, South Glamorgan, Wales, U.K. Predeceased by sister Hilda (Dixie) Crates. Walter served in the Canadian Armed Forces from March 1941 - December 1945. He received 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and War Medal 1939-45. Walter was also employed with the Canadian Red Cross in Toronto for 23 years.

Great-gramma to Halle & Nicholas Robinson.  Sister-in-law to Lola Johnston, Pembroke and Guy and Alice McClelland, Sudbury.  Daughter of the late Edward and Ida Nesbitt (nee Poff).  Sister of Emery Nesbitt, Sudbury;  and Aubry Nesbitt (wife Isabel), Carleton Place.  Predeceased by brothers Alex, Gerald, Theodore, and Edward Nesbitt and sister Isabel Denton.  She will be missed.

Granny to 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. Daughter of the late Thomas and Florence Pigeon (nee Chapeskie). Sister of Angelo Pigeon (wife Margaret), Verner, Ontario; and Patricia Simourd, Schumacher, Ontario. September 1st, 2005.

Born 19 January 1945 in Carleton Place, Ontario to the late Keith and Doris (Saunders) Porteous. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy (Allard), by three children, James (Lyette) of Marathon, Jannie of Pembroke, and Jason (Kelly) of Halifax, and by five grandchildren, Earl, Abigail, Isaac, Eliza Jane Porteous and Jelisa MacKenzie. Brother of Robert Porteous (Wanda), Thunder Bay; and Kerry Porteous (Pam), Smiths Falls. A miner by profession Earl lived, worked and raised a family in Northern Ontario (Marathon and Levack) before retiring to Pembroke in 1991. He was a fine husband and a great father. He will be remembered by a large extended family and friends for his great sense of humour, his generosity, and for his willingness to help all those around him in any way he could. He will be missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, Petawawa on Monday, 5 September at 11 a.m. (In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marianhill Palliative Care Unit in Pembroke).
